As-salamu’ alaykum! May the peace and blessings of Allah Almighty be upon you!
There is a lot of miss-information about Islam. This saddens me. If we want to know about making wooden tables, we should ask a carpenter not a butcher! If we want to know about wires and cables, we should ask an electrician not a dentist! If we want to know about Islam, we must read the Honoured Qur’an for ourselves. We shouldn’t just ask learned scholars or pastors from churches about Islam merely obtaining information from their thoughts and opinions. Yes, go directly to the source! There are indeed so many good reasons why we should take time to read the Qur’an for our own selves.
Just as an oyster contains and protects a precious pearl, so too the Qur’an protects and preserves important teachings for us.
It is such an amazing book! It speaks wonderfully of God, Jesus (in Arabic Isa), and the Bible (the Taurat, Zaboor, the Prophets, and the Injeel!) The Qur’an is truly a book worth reading. In it we find so many reflections of what we read in the sacred Bible Scriptures. Have you ever gazed into the waters of a still pond at night, and seen the reflection of the moon upon the surface of the water? So too, many beautiful Bible teachings are similarly reflected in the pages of the Honoured Qur’an.
For example, the Qur’an tells me there is one true God. We read in Sura 2:255 Al-Baqara “Allah, There is no God but He." This is also taught in the Bible! "The Lord our God is ONE." Mark 12:29 Injeel. "But to us there is but ONE God." 1Corinthians 8:6. The Qur’an also tells us that Jesus (Isa) said: “He has given me revelation and made me a prophet.” Sura 19:30 Maryam. The Bible teaches Jesus’ (Isa’s) role as a prophet too! We are told: “Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet Mighty in word and deed.” Luke 24:19 Injeel.
Have you personally taken time to read some of the beautiful prophecies of Jesus? They are contained in the Injeel, books of Matthew chapter 24, Mark chapter 13, and Luke chapter 21 in the Bible scriptures. They will thrill your heart! This same prophet of Allah also taught us how to live a godly life. Read Matthew chapters 5 & 6.
The Honoured Qur’an tells me that the Bible scriptures (known in Arabic as the Taurat, Zaboor, the Prophets and Injeel) "contain light and guidance" for all of us, and they are "a guide to mankind" Sura 5:46 Al-Maeda and Sura 3:3 Aal-E-Imran This is indeed what the prophet David (in Arabic Dauood) believed! He declared: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105 Zaboor. He taught us the blessings of reading the Bible scriptures when he said: "And [the one that reads them] shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth fruit in his season, his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Psalm 1:3. Zaboor
The Qur’an is like a finger from heaven, pointing its readers to the sacred Bible Scriptures. Just as a compass points north, so the Honoured Qur’an points people to the Taurat, Zaboor, the former Prophets, and the Injeel. Every true Muslim should follow this finger from heaven...every true Muslim should follow the direction of this compass.
We should read the Qur’an because it tells us many beautiful things about Jesus (His peace be upon us). It tells us of his miraculous virgin birth Sura 19:19-21 Maryam, and his miracles Sura 3:49 Aal-E-Imran. The Qur’an also tells us about the glad tidings of Jesus. He is good news for each of us! “Behold, the angels said: O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him. His name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of the company of those nearest to Allah.” Sura 3:45 Aal-E-Imran.
Just as a word communicates, explains and reveals...so too Jesus unfolds the truth of Allah to us. He is the beautiful Word of Allah! “…the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us.” John 1:14 Injeel. “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life.” 1 John 1:1 Injeel.
Just as a candle brings light into a darkened room, so Jesus brings light into our lives, driving out darkness from our hearts. We are told in the Honoured Qur’an that Jesus "shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity." Sura 3:46 Aal-E-Imran. Jesus still speaks to people today! In the Injeel, Jesus says: "everyone that is of the truth heareth my voice." John 18:37
Perhaps Jesus is speaking to you today in a dream? Or maybe the Prophet Jesus is speaking to you today through your conscience? Even nature around us speaks of God’s great love, in each opening bud and in each leaf of the forest or from the quiet flowing stream in the mountain. Hear his voice. Listen to him. Supremely, we can hear the voice of Jesus by reading the Sacred Bible scriptures that speak of him. Jesus (His peace be upon us) said:
"[these scriptures] are they that testify of ME." John 5:39 Injeel.
Another reason to read the Qur’an is that it positively affirms the Taurat, Zaboor, the former Prophets, and the Injeel as authoritative.
“If thou [Mohammed pbuh] wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book [Bible] from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no wise of those in doubt”. Sura 10.94 Yunus
“Before thee,[Mohammed pbuh] also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the message” Sura 21.7 Al-Anbiyaa.
“In the past We granted to Moses and Aaron the criterion (for judgment), and a Light and a message for those who would do right” Sura 21.48 Al-Anbiyaa.
“And before thee [Mohammed pbuh] also the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: if ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message.” Sura 16.43 An-Nahl.
Finally, we should read the Qur’an because in it we are told to obey Jesus.
[Jesus said] "Fear Allah, and obey me." Sura 3:50 Aal-E-Imran.
The pages of the Qur’an invite us all to submit to Allah by obeying Jesus. Will you accept the invitation? Allah patiently waits for your answer!
